"Cassette Diaries" is an ongoing series that attempts to record on an old medium to challenge the process of writing and production. With the ease of use on DAWs and its amazing opportunity to be able to write and record everything on a computer I wanted to see if I had the chops to write songs on tape. I found that it was not only difficult to track parts and ping pong bounce these recordings onto two different tape machines, but a liberating experience to record and make decisions on the fly without having many options to adjust. It was from this point I realized how much I loved this hands on approach. It's such an inconvenient process, but a great way to slow down and keep the work realized.

"A Small Dedication to the Sun Coming Home" is a project about my longing for warmer months during the winter season. Much of my depressive moods are met during these times and with the crippling cold stabbing my skin suddenly declines my aspirations to go outside. I'm getting older and my mental health certainly gets tested when drudging through the gray days. However the dark atmosphere doesn't sway me away from thinking about the first kiss from the sun.

It was recorded on a Tascam Porta 02 MKII with a crappy cassette tape that was included with a haul of crappy cassette tapes that had music in it already.
